Wolfsburg welcomes Gent over at Volkswagen Arena on the 7th of mars for their concluding game in their 1/8 final. The first leg of their fixture ended 2-3 in favor of Wolfsburg, however the unexpected qualifiers AA Gent managed to redeem a 0-3 deficit and will surely be coming to germany with their hopes high.
AA Gent will be coming into this game with 4 defeats and 1 victory on the road aswell as 2 victories, 2 defeats and 1 draw overall. Things are looking grim for Gent as even their coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck stated that “I give us a 0% chance of progressing in the champions league”, claiming that the germans were just to physical in comparison with the Belgian style of soccer. Gent have managed to score in all of their latest 5 games though and average 2 goals/game in those games even with striker Benito Raman suspended indefinitely after a homophobic chant. Gent will be without central midfielder Hannes Van Der Bruggen as well as Benito Raman for this game.
Wolfsburg will be coming into this game with 2 victories, 2 draws and 1 defeat at home aswell as 3 victories, 1 draw and 1 defeats overall. Wolfsburg lone defeat was versus the Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern Munich at home. Excluding that game Wolfsburg have managed to score in all of their latest 5 games, averaging 2 goals/game. Sebastian Jung, Naldo, Das Brost, Diego Benaglio, Paul Segion and Carlos Ascues are all reported injured for Wolfsburg for this game.
Gent vs Wolfsburg 2-3 first leg review:
The first leg of the 1/8 fixture between Gent and Wolfsburg over at Ghelamco Arena was a goal heavy one as predicted by the viking. AA Gent started out the game with the first real chance of the game but they were then put in a stranglehold when Draxler managed to exploit defensive mistakes by Gent not once but twice, first scoring the opening goal just before the break and then the second just after the break.
Wolfsburg then managed to score a third goal through Christian Träsch, just minutes after Draxler was around the box again and barely missed a fourth goal. Now things started to go south for the over-confident Wolfsburg team as Kums outsmarted the german’s defense and scored Gent’s first goal. The game was then wrapped up at 89′ with a good run from Coulibaly who managed to score with a header.

Have you tried betting at a sports betting exchange instead of at a bookmaker?
The viking recommends Matchbook if you want to try the betting exchange experience. Matchbook also offers many unique ways to bet aswell as their own casino games.
Having lost the first leg 2-3 Gent will need to win this game with at least 2 goals or the reverse result in order to have a shot at advancing. The viking doesn’t think that Wolfsburg will play this safe with a nice defensive set up though, the home crowd will be there expecting a goal fest and key player Draxler will surely not let them down. This was Gent’s first late stage appearance in the Champions League and with Coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck’s statement in mind it’s safe to conclude that the Belgians will use this as a learning experience, something that we can see from the lines of the game aswell. However this doesn’t mean that there isn’t value to be had in this fixture.
The viking’s prediction for this game is a Wolfsburg victory, simply adding up all the facts, the experience and the mentality of the teams makes this the obvious pick. With both teams goal averages and with the first leg as a preview we can conclude that the value picks here are in the over goal picks, both teams averages 2 goals/game and adding that up makes over 3.5 look good aswell as over 2.5 which feels like a safe pick to add to a nice coupon.
