Tonight the Utah Jazz will be welcoming the Memphis Grizzlies over at Vivint Smart House Arena in Utah. The Jazz have had a strong start to the 2015-16 NBA season but they’ve arguably been facing some of the lower teams of the NBA such as the 76e’rs, Indy, Pistons and Denver. Nevertheless Jazz are 3-2 with a 3-1 road record and they will be looking to evening out their home record to 1-1 tonight. The Grizzlies on the other hand had a catastrophic start to this season, getting humiliated by Golden state and the Cleveland Cavaliers (two ~30 points losses). The Grizzlies are 3-3 as of now and they´ll be looking to bag this game for a positive record, however their previously renowned defense seems to be struggling against offensive teams and they are currently in the bottom of the NBA 3-points defense (41.5%).
Utah Jazz last game was a road game versus the Denver Nuggets, a game which they won with 96-84. In that win the team captain and star Gordon Hayward managed to score over 20 points. “He’s the leader of the team, so to see him out there getting it going, he gets everybody else going,” – Trevor Booker says to espn.com, and this seems to be the key for the Jazz to get going. If Hayward is consistent then the team clicks and the rest of the line-up is consistent aswell.
The Memphis Grizzlies is coming into this game following a 96-115 loss to the Portland Trailblazers. That game was the same story as the teams losses to Golden State and the Cavaliers, the Grizzlies have lost their 3-point defense and as such when they face teams with players capable of hitting the 25-30+ mark then they struggle a lot. In the Portland loss it was Damian Lillard who they couldn’t handle, he scored 27 points of which 21 points were from 3-pointers.

The viking’s prediction for this game is that the Grizzlies will win it or at the very least cover the public line of 2 points. We should expect this game to go under as the Grizzlies will be able to play the game in their play style as Utah Jazz is a fitting opponent for their slow paced defensive game style. This pick is perfect for a mid sized bet as there is quite some value to be had in the Grizzlies following their big defeats to the more offensive teams. The viking doesn’t recommend that you fire the barrel for this pick as the Utah Jazz are 0-1 at home, and will be coming into this game following a road victory which means that they will have their spirits set high to perform in front of their home crowd.
If you feel confident enough then you should consider buying down some points on the Grizzlies and aim for a -2.5 – -5.5 bet, however the viking believes that this will be a close one as both teams will come into the game with good focus, the Jazz probably has a small mental edge with their recent success but since this is a favorable matchup for the Grizzlies a 4+ points win isn’t to unlikely, it all depends on if they can shut down Hayward or not.
