On the fifth of november the Montreal Canadiens welcomes New York Islanders over at Bell Centre in Montreal. The Canadiens will be looking to not fall into back to back loses at home following their 1-2 overtime loss to the Senators this Tuesday. The Islanders on the other hand are 2-2 (including overtime games) on the road and they´re displaying a very good shape thus far which means that this will be a good match for the Canadiens to rebound from their loss to the Sens.
The New York islanders will be coming into this game with 2 victories and 3 defeats in their latest 5 games. They´ve dropped a bit in their 5 on 5 play since their earlier victories of the season, scoring only 3 times in their latest 4 games while on even strength. However the Islanders will be coming into this fixture motivated from their 2-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils and they should have their roster strengthened as John Tavares should be ready to play in this game, the team captain have been sick for the Islanders last 3 games and as such this might be one explanation to the Islander´s lackluster 5 on 5 play.
The Canadiens will be coming into this game with 2 victories and 3 defeats in their latest 5 games. They are currently 5-1 at home this season following the overtime loss to the Senators this Tuesday. The Canadiens will still be without the star goalkeeper Carey Price but the substitute Mike Condon has been showing great promise in filling his shoes, bolstering a 94.1 save percentage with 1.6 GAA. The 25 year old rookie has an advantage with the new sudden death format though as the AHL have used it for the last 4 minutes of their 7 minute overtime. However the game versus the Senators was the Canadiens’s first official 3 on 3 sudden death and the lack of experience from the rest of the team was showing.

The viking´s prediction for this game is a regular time victory for the Canadiens. If Tavares is back for the Islanders then the over 5.0 (possibly 5.5) goals is a great pick for this game aswell as Tavares should be able to get the 5 on 5 play back, which means that the Islanders should be getting more shots (and with that more goals) than in their latest games. Furthermore, the Canadiens have finally revealed a weakness which is their overtime play and as such they should be looking to pressure their offensive play in the regulation time in order to avoid a back to back sudden death loss.
