The second fixture of the 2015 Bnp Paribas WTA Finals semi-finals will feature Maria Sharapova and Petra Kvitova. The last time this duo faced each other was actually in the group stage of last years WTA Finals where Kvitova robbed Sharapova of her semi-finals spot when she defeated her with 6‑3 6‑2.
Petra Kvitova will be coming into this fixture with 4 defeats and 1 victory in her latest 5 matches. However in all of those losses she has either took a set or taken the match to a tiebreak (disregarding her 7-5 6-4 loss to Sara Errani). Kvitova was the only player to take a set from Garbine Muguruza in the group stages of the tournament as she fought for survival with the Spaniard, a set which took her and not Angelique Kerber or Lucie Safarova to this semi-final.
Maria Sharapova will be coming into this fixture with 2 losses and 3 victories in her latest 5 games. She suffered a leg injury in her 6-2 6-4 loss to Serena Williams in the quarter finals of this years Wimbledon, due to that injury Sharapova needed to take some well earned rest from the court and just recently made her comeback at the WTA Wuhan where she accepted a wildcard spot. Sharapova forfeited her first match in that tournament to the rank 40 Barbora Strycova at 7-6 6-7 1-2 due to pain in her left forearm. Both of these injuries raised a lot of questions coming into this tournament but Sharapova has proven all non believers wrong in winning all three of the group stage matches, loosing only a single set.

Looking into head to head statistics for this game is rather pointless as the two tennis players last faced each other in last years WTA Finals where Kvitova won in straight sets, however they deserve a mention as they speak for the mental edge; Sharapova has won 6 out of 9 matches versus Kvitova, out of the last 5 matches that they´ve played Sharapova won 4. This match serves as a great “revenge” match for Sharapova so regardless of the loss in their last meeting the mental advantage should actually be on Sharapova’s side considering their total head to head statistics.
This is a really interesting fixture to predict as Kvitova´s shape has been on the downside but she looked really strong against Garbine Muguruza who´s arguably the biggest contender to take the title at the tournament. Sharapova on the other hand has been convincing throughout all of her matches but it´s possible that one of her injuries comes back to haunt her. However the vikings prediction for this game is that Sharapova wins in 3 sets, the value is really on Kvitova as she underperformed in her first matches. Though our winners pick will be based on our prediction and as such the best pick on that selection will be Sharapova to win.
