On april 12 Manchester City welcomes Paris Saint Germain over at Ethiad Stadium for the second leg of their champions league quarter finals fixture. After a first leg which looked to end in a similar fashion to PSG’s first leg against Chelsea but took a terrible turn as the out of suspension Serge Aurier (following his homophobic remarks towards Laurent Blanc and a few of his teammates) made a big misplay and put PSG on a though spot. A PSG and Zlatan with their best shot at a champions league title so far under pressure aswell as a Manchester City with the dream alive of finishing Pelligrini’s run in City with the same title this brings us a loaded fixture which in turn means that there is easy money to be earned in the fixture.
Paris Saint Germain will be coming into this fixture with 3 victories, 1 draw and 1 defeat overall aswell as 4 victories and 1 defeat on the road. PSG’s lone defeat on the road was versus Lyon with 2-1 in a Ligue-1 game back in february. There is no doubt that Laurent Blanc will be questioning his decision to put Aurier back in play which to some extent caused this situation for them, but the facts from the first leg still apply to this game; namely PSG’s world class ability to score. Paris Saint Germain will be without Blaise Matuidi and David Luiz who got suspended in the first leg (should PSG advance then they will be able to play in the next fixture) aswell as Marco Veratti and Javier Pastore who are reported injured.
Manchester City will be coming into this fixture with 2 victories, 2 draws and 1 defeat overall aswell as 2 victories, 1 draw and 2 defeats on the road. Pelligrini’s men showed in the first leg that they’re well and capable of handling themselves even without the leadership of Kompany or the playmaking of Yaya Toure. However Sergio Agüero and De Bruyne showed that they can score even without the support of the teams best midfielders to lay up the ball for them. Manchester City will be without Vincent Kompany, Raheem Steerling and Yaya Toure whom are all reported injured for this fixture.
PSG vs City UEFA champions league quarter-finals first leg review:
PSG got a dream start to the first leg of the champions league quarter final as their main man Zlatan Ibrahimovic got to take an early penalty but was denied in front of the home crowd by Joe Hart, the latter turned out to be one of the key players for City as he made some crucial saves from both Cavani and Ibra. Instead it was the visitors that took the early lead when Kevin de Bruyne capitalized on a counter attack.
PSG then managed to reclaim their home ground as the “saviour” Zlatan Ibrahimovic managed to score an equalizer in front of a roaring home crowd following a terrible misplay from Fernando. Adrien Rabiot then managed to put the home team in the lead at 2-1 and PSG looked to be backing home to wrap up the game, but Fernandinho had something else in mind.
Following a series of unfortunate defensive mistakes from PSG, Fernandinho got a shoot at goal inside the box and scored to give City the away goal advantage. This means that Paris Saint Germain will travel to England with the need to win by 1 goal or to tie the game at 2-2.

The viking’s expert prediction for this game is that it will be a goal heavy game, with key midfielders and playmaking players absent for both teams we should see a lot of quick counter attacks and play around the box of both teams. We feel that PSG holds a small advantage in their scoring capabilities but Manchester City could be able to capitalize on the absence of David Luiz and Veratti to give De Bruyne and Aguero some easy chances.
Manchester City will have the home field advantage and as the only premier league team remaining in the champions league they will probably have the whole of England cheering for them. In the end though this fixture is a classical “who wants it more” and with that in mind the mental edge will be non existant. It’s also important to keep in mind that this might very well be one of the last (if not the last) chance that one of the worlds best strikers “Ibra” will have to win the champions league and when two teams of this magnitude face off that’s when Zlatan manages to bring his magic. With this in mind we put this in a 70/30 favor of PSG advancing.
