Chelsea will welcome Paris saint Germain over at Stamford Bridge for the second leg of the champions league 1/8 finals on Wednesday 09/03. PSG won the first meeting at Parc de princes but Chelsea defended well and played their best game of the season managing to leave Paris with an acceptable 1-2 defeat, the game was the teams first loss since Guus hiddink took over from José Mourinho. However the tables have turned for this fixture as Chelsea will be the team with the home field advantage but coming of injuries on several key players whereas PSG will be close to full power.
Paris Saint Germain will be coming into this fixture with 3 victories, 1 draw and 1 defeat overall aswell as 4 victories and 1 defeat on the road. PSG’s lone defeat was in their last game versus Lyon, a game in which both Veratti and Di Maria was missing and it resulted in Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s worst performance in a long time. However both players are said to be healthy enough to play versus Chelsea, having only minor injuries.
Chelsea will be coming into this game with 4 victories and 1 defeat overall aswell as 2 victories and 3 draws at home. Chelsea had a very strong showing in the first leg, constantly managing to shut down the PSG attacks and attempting counterattacks with Willian almost scoring a second goal just missing the ball with a foot’s length. Chelsea will still be without Radamel Falcao for this fixture who’s injury is reported as “very serious” by Hiddink. However Terry is reported to be healthy and ready to return to face the Parisians.
PSG vs Chelsea 2-1 first leg review:
The first leg of this fixture was a good showing for both teams as Chelsea arguably played their best game of the season and PSG managed to win even though the blues defended heroically. In the first 20 minutes it felt like Paris was building up momentum and the game was rather messy, when PSG found their pace Di Maria played a big role in the Parisian offense delivering opportunity after opportunity. Ibrahimovic did what’s expected of him and scored but with the chances given one could be expecting a bit more from him. A hungry Cavanni was substituted into the game and almost instantly scored.
Chelsea showed a good growth in team dynamic and spirit since the Mourinho era and handled the Parisians way above expectation. Mikel managed to score following a corner from Willian and ended the first half 1-1. Willian was almost involved in a second goal but he was a few milliseconds to slow. Both Costa and Pedro had a couple of good chances but they will both need to perform on a higher level if they’re going to break the Paris defense.

Tip from the viking:
Have you tried betting at a sports betting exchange instead of at a bookmaker?
The viking recommends Matchbook if you want to try the betting exchange experience. Matchbook also offers many unique ways to bet aswell as their own casino games.
The outcome from the first leg is sure to set the strategies for the teams coming into this fixture. Chelsea will need to win in order to advance and it’s likely that we will see the two sides switching strategies with each other from the first leg. this opens up for some good value picks in this game.
The viking’s prediction for this game is that it ends in a 1-1 draw. With the first leg in mind as a preview Chelsea is sure to get some good chances to score but both Pedro and Costa need to pull off a strong showing in order to get the ball in the net. A pressured Chelsea will provide PSG with good counter attack opportunities and if Di Maria puts on the same explosive performance as in the first leg then it’s very likely we see an Ibra goal with a Di Maria assist. The Over x corners live bet pick is also interesting for this fixture however be sure to bet on this early, especially if there’s few corners in the start of the game before one of the teams sets the pace. The over/under goals pick is quite difficult to predict for this game but if you want to bet on it then consider the over 3.5 goals just for the pure value of a 2-2 result (or more obviously, but if the game go over 2.5 then 2-2 is the most likely result). If you’re watching the game live then be sure to bet on the over 3.5 if Chelsea scores early and look for the under 2.5 should PSG score early.
