Champions league preview & predictions 2016/17:
The UEFA Champions league are finally back for the 2016/17 season, after a stunning conclusion of last year’s tournament where Real Madrid finally emerged as the winners in the Madrid derby at the San Siro Stadium in Milan. after a nail biting game which ended in penalties where Real bested Atletico with 5-3 as Christiano Ronaldo dealt the finishing blow. The victory gave Real Madrid their 11th Champions league title and Ronaldo managed to become the top scorer of the competition with 15 goals.
However last season provided us with plenty of upsets, the most notable ones where Real Madrid’s first game of the quarter finals where they lost to Wolfsburg with 0-2. Real Madrid then managed to claim the victory at home with 3-0 and saved their campaign by the 1 goal advantage. The other major upset was when Atletico yet again managed to deny Barcelona to continue their quest as they advanced with a 1 goal advantage aswell in the quarters.
Some other notable mentions are Manchester City who made their best Champions league tour as of yet and PSG who yet again was unsuccessful in reaching the finals which is one of the big goals for Nasser.
UEFA Champions league 2016/17 groups:
The groups for the 16/17 Champions league season looks to be quite comfortable for the top tier teams and we expect that most of them manages to reach the round of 16. However pay attention to group B and group E where all the teams should be considered as able to advance, in other words these are our “groups of death”.
Both Paris Saint Germain and Arsenal are heavy favourites in this group and in order for Basel or Ludogorets to stand a chance to advance they’ll need to take advantage of the early games versus PSG/Arsenal as neither of those teams will be at full strength at the start. PSG needs some time to get used to their new coach Unai Emery and they need to get Cavani to step up. Arsenal will be without several of their key midfielders and if they drop their guard or rest to many starters in one these matches it could very well mean points for the lower tier teams.
UEFA Champions league 2016/17 Group A prediction:
Group B of the 2016/17 Champions league season is probably the one that is the most even in terms of team strength. Benfica and Dynamo Kyiv had a fantastic season last year and both managed to reach the later stages of the Champions league. All teams won their respective league except for Napoli who were the Serie A runner ups behind Juventus.
This is one of the easiest groups to predict the outcome of as Barcelona and Manchester City are on quite a different level than the other teams. The big upset here is a potential City 1st place if they manage the difficult task of beating Barca. However our prediction for the group should be seen as quite a safe banker bet and is a no brainer if you’re looking to bet big. Furthermore Manchester City to finish second in the group is way overpriced if you agree that they will loose to Barcelona, with City’s current squad and the management of Pep Guardiola it would be a MAJOR upset if they didn’t make at least the quarters.
Group D has some big betting opportunities as both Bayern and Atletico are clear favourites to win the group but the odds on them to finish 1st or 2nd are way misspriced. Bayern Munich will be coming in hungry to dominate this season but Atletico Madrid showed everyone last season that they can compete with any team and at 3.00 to beat Bayern Munich to the first place this is a bet that you should definitely consider. PSV Eindhoven did manage to reach the 1/16 finals last season but it’s extremely unlikely that they’ll manage to take points from either Atletico Madrid or Bayern to have a chance.
The second group of death is filled with 4 very close teams, however there are two teams that we consider to have a small advantage over the others, namely Tottenham and Monaco. Tottenham had an amazing run in the late part of last year’s premier league which showed us that the spurs can compete with the top european teams. Monaco have their strong defense and have already made their mark with a 3-1 victory over PSG this season.
It would be foolish not to pick Real Madrid as the winners of this group, as last year’s champions aswell as with the best team in the group by far the other teams will have to come to terms with the fact that this is a race for second place. Dortmund did lose Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Mats Hummels during the transfer window but they also gained Mario Götze and André Schürrle. As one of the few teams to actually challenge Bayern in the Bundesliga we hold them as clear favourites for the second spot in this group.
This is a group that is looking easy to predict at first sight but with Leicester having a rough start to the season it could provide us with some potential upsets. The other favourite in this group is Porto and we think that if Leicester continues to struggle then Porto could very well take the first spot in this group. Though with the offensive duo of Mharez and Vardy in mind we find it unlikely that the other teams will compete for any of the 1-2 spots.
The white lady has undergone some big changes during the transfer window, namely loosing their big name Paul Pogba. However with the additions of Gonzalo Higuaín and Miralem Pjanic among others we still hold them as favourites to win this group, especially with their previous Champions league experience and success in mind. The clear runner ups in the group are Sevilla, especially with Vasquez to strengthen their already strong offensive.

UEFA Champions league 2016/17 winner predictions:
The viking’s prediction to win the 2016/17 Champions league are Bayern Munich. Though in order to lift the trophy they would need to surpass several other favourites such as Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. Though Bayern are one of the teams that we consider to be the strongest in terms of depth and shooting capabilities. Barcelona are considered the favourites by the bookmakers but in our opinion they lack a bit of depth and with Leo Messi already injured it could prove problematic later down the line for the spanish powerhouse.
With the necessary departure of Mario Götze who was one of the most underwhelming players in the german EURO16 troop and the arrival of Mats Hummels the spaniards will need to fight to get past Bayern this season.
Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid also carries some betting value, though our top tip is to stay away from Atletico and bet on a 3-way winner selection of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester City.
Yes that’s right we consider City to be one of the potential wild card selections to lift the trophy. With their new management and depth in their troop they could very well manage to at least make the semis and maybe take home the trophy to England. It could also be wise to place a single unit bet on Manchester City and then hedge out the value from that bet later on in the tournament (at least semis).
