On the 16th of mars Bayern Munich welcomes Juventus over at Allianz Arena for the second leg in their 1/8 champions league final. Juventus miraculously managed to turn a 0-2 deficit into a 2-2 draw in the first leg and what first looked like a done 1/8 suddenly turned into one of the most interesting fixtures of the 1/8-finals.
Bayern Munich will be coming into this game with 3 victories, 1 draw and 1 defeat overall aswell as 4 victories and 1 defeat at home (as of 03/03). Bayern’s defeat was versus the 5th placed Mainz who managed to win even though Bayern had a superior possession, they executed a perfect defense and capitalized on counter attacks. It should be noted though that this was Ribery’s first start in a year. This loss means that Bayern Munich is no longer comfortable at first place and if they lose to Dortmund in their next meeting then the race for the title will be on. Bayern Munich will be without Badstuber, Boateng and Martinez for the second and leg and as such their defense will still be weakened, though Pep Guardiola will most likely have analyzed how they can improve that in the best way and what players they should choose to do it.
Juventus will be heading into this game with 2 victories, 2 draws and 1 defeat overall aswell as 3 victories, 1 draw and 1 defeat on the road (as of 03/03). Juventus’s lone defeat was on penalties versus Inter in the semi finals of Copa Italia. Claudio Marchisio, Martin Caceres and Giorgio Chiellini are reported injured heading into this game.
Juventus vs Bayern Munich 2-2 first leg review:
This first leg was one of the more interesting games of the 1/8-finals as it was very back and forward throughout the game. Bayern Munich dominated the first half with 70% possession aswell as many good chances and a goal from Tomas Müller. Arjen Robben who was one of Bayern’s best players on the field (being involved in both goals) later went to score a second goal for the germans before things started to go the wrong way. All in all a solid performance as always from Bayern, though Lewandowski left us wanting a bit more.
Juventus managed to recover late in the second half mainly because of the ex-Bayern player Mandzukic who was involved in both of Juventus goals. It’s not over untill the old lady sings and this showed to be true, Juve successfully managed to exploit Bayern’s only weakness which was their injured defensive midfield.

The 2-2 result in the first leg means that Bayern will have an away goal advantage heading into this game which means that they have to win order to advance. The last time that Juventus actually managed to beat Bayern was back in 2005 and that was a completely different fixture. However with the defense of Bayern still weakened Juventus do have several players capable of breaking to the german back line and find the net: Pogba, Mandzukic (it would be pretty impressive if he went back to his old home arena to shoot out Guardiola from the champions league), Dybala and Morata to name a few.
However as we mentioned earlier Pep and his analysts are sure to have found a good way of filling the gaps in the back line and scoring on Neuer is never an easy task. Bayern also have one of the best offense’s in europe (arguably bested only by Barcelona) and with a Juventus needing to score it will create good opportunities for Lewandowski to redeem himself from the first leg and score an easy counter attack goal.
The viking’s prediction for this game is a victory for Bayern Munich but with both teams scoring. Even though Juventus is on a hot streak in Serie A winning game after game, beating Bayern Munich at Allianz Arena is a completely different endeavour. Especially as Javi Martinez is rumored to be back in time for a potential semi final. The other interesting picks for this fixture is the over goals pick as it’s unlikely that Bayern will be focusing on a defensive strategy and the over corners pick with Juventus being the masters of creating set-pieces.
