On the 15th of mars Atletico Madrid welcomes PSV Eindhoven over at Vicente Calderón Stadium for the second leg of their 1/8 finals in the champions league. The Spaniards who are currently second in La Liga, trailing 8 points to Barcelona looks to have secured their spot for next seasons champions league already but the La Liga title is far away and as such this will be their best shot at a prestigious title for this season. PSV on the other hand leads the Eredivise but are just 1 point ahead of Ajax, though PSV will be coming into this fixture with their hopes held high after withstanding Atletico with just 10-men in the first leg (following the suspension on Gaston Pereiro).
PSV Eindhoven will be coming into this game with 3 victories and 2 draws overall aswell as 5 victories on the road. PSV had their best scorer Luuk de Jong suspended for the first lef of the fixture and he will be available to play in this upcoming game, with 22 goals scored this season he’ll be a nice addition for Phillip Cocu’s men. PSV will be without Gaston Pereiro who got suspended in the first leg and Simon Poulsen who is injured with no set date to return.
Atletico Madrid will be coming into this fixture with 4 victories and 1 draw overall aswell as 3 victories, 1 draw and 1 defeat at home. Atletico’s lone defeat was versus this year’s rising team Celta Vigo with 2-3, however Atletico have found some much needed consistency and is looking to challenge Barcelona for the nr 1 spot in La Liga. One of the main concerns in Atletico is the form of Fernando Torres who has been facing numerous injuries this season and as such have hit a bad streak in his performance, if Torres manages to find his way back into his former shape then Atletico will be a real contender for the champions league title for sure. Diego Simeone’s men will have Tiago and Stefan Savic absent due to injury.
PSV vs Atletico 0-0 first leg review
The first leg of the fixture was a scoreless endeavour which wasn’t entirely surprising as Atletico is famous for being one of the best defensive and physical teams in europe. Goalkeeper Jan Oblak just needed to make one crucial save to shut down PSV’s best chance and after that the game looked to be all about Madrid.
Madrid’s offense was led by Griezmann who had several good chances in both halves but fell short to Jeroen Zoet. The game was wrapped up by a nice shot from Fernando Torres who was substituted in the last minutes of the game.

The viking’s prediction for this game is that Atletico Madrid advances to the next stage of the tournament. Even though PSV needs to win in regular time in order to advance we should be seeing both teams coming out with an offensive first half and then back home to defend following the opening goal (if any).
With this game picture in mind and the first game as a preview, there are several interesting picks that holds value for this game. Both home and away team first goal in the first half looks promising aswell as the first half to have the most goals. With Atletico’s famous defense and PSV’s hopes relying on being able to score the first goal then if Atletico scores first (which in turn also is more likely with their more in-depth offense), PSV should get demoralized and the Under 2.5 goals aswell as the both teams to score no picks will be very strong.
