On april 13th Atletico Madrid welcomes Barcelona over at Estadio Vicente Calderón for the second leg of their champions league quarter-final. Following Barcelona’s recent “crisis” when they first lost El Clasico with 2-1, then put on a weak performance against Atletico and most recently lost against Sociedad with 1-0. With this in mind Luis Enrique is sure to pulling his hair as it meant that not only is Barca’s champions league dreams threatened but they’re also just 3 points ahead of Atletico and 4 points ahead of Real Madrid in La Liga. This on the other hand also means that Diego Simeone is cheering as he stated earlier this year that he was hoping for Barca to fall, this means that not only are Atletico contenders for the champions league final but also for the La Liga title. And it’s not only Diego that’s cheering since situations like these means that there are golden sports betting opportunities to be had for the smart gambler, on one of the best soccer games of the year nonetheless.
Atletico Madrid will be coming into this game with 3 victories and 2 defeats overall aswell as 4 victories and 1 draw at home. Diego Simone will be looking to repeat his feat from 2014 when they managed to beat Barca in this exact situation. Having scored an away goal in the first game they just need a 1-0 victory or better in order to advance and having the best defensive team (and physical) in La Liga they should be up to the task to protect an early goal. However this will rest on the shoulders of top scorer Griezmann as star icon Fernando Torres will not be allowed to be play in this game, though Torres have not had his usual impact this season and his scoring has been inline with Niguez and Correa; in other words not what the Atletico fans expected from a player of his caliber. Apart from Fernando Torres, Atletico Madrid will also be without José Giménez, Stefan Savic and Oliver Torres whom are all reported injured.
Barcelona will be coming into this fixture with 2 victories, 2 defeats and 1 draw overall aswell as 3 victories, 1 draw and 1 defeat on the road. Things are starting to go side-ways for the Catalonians who’ve had an amazing season leading up to this point. They had the La Liga victory almost secured and were looking to make another triple (champions league winners, La Liga winners and Copa Del Rey winners) with relative ease. One of the main concerns for Barca is Lionel Messi’s current goal drought, the worlds best striker is currently chasing is 500th goal and this could be the reason to why Barca is regressing a bit. This game will be a make or break game for both Barca and “Leo”, they either break Atletico and take that with them to La Liga or they fail and team morale goes down further which would mean that their only “easy” title would be in Copa Del Rey, something which wont be accepted by the fans. Barca will be without Sandro Ramirez, Jeremy Mathieu Aleix Vidal who are all reported injured. Arda Turan is suspended in La Liga but will be able to play in this game as the suspension doesn’t carry over to the champions league.
Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid champions league quarter-finals first leg review:
The first leg of Barcelona’s and Atletico’s quarter-final fixture looked to be a dreadful game for the home team over at Camp Nou as the questioned Fernando Torres managed to take advantage from a ball from Koke and scored 1 nill for the visitors. Though Atletico’s saviour turned out to be their downfall as Torres was booked for his second yellow card just minutes later and was sent off the field.
Even though Atletico have a renowned defense, playing with a man down for almost two thirds of the game is no easy task versus Barcelona; especially not at Camp Nou. Atletico managed to keep the lead past half time and came out on fire after the break but with some “MSN” magic Suarez managed to even out the score and just 11 minutes later he was back to wrap up the game with 2-1 for the home team.
Regardless of Barcelona’s victory this game showed Atletico that they stand more than a fair chance against the Catalonians and hands down Atletico Madrid was the better team this game. Atletico will however be without Fernando Torres for the second leg but they will be coming into the game with their heads held high and with their hopes up aswell as an away goal which means that even a 1-0 victory at home will be enough to advance and yet again push Barcelona out of a champions league semi.

In their 5 latest head to head meetings over at Estadio Vicente Calderón; Barcelona have won 3, Atletico 1 and there has been 1 draw. The per game goal average for these game have been 2 goals/game.
This is by all means one of the hardest games to predict as the trio of MSN is able to produce unpredictable results, otherworldly performances one might say. However with the first leg as a preview for this game and with the current state of the two teams in mind we can still conclude what the sports betting value for this fixture is.
Atletico will have the home field advantage and an enormous mental edge for this game as they are sure to be reminded of their 10 man effort aswell as the feeling of being a bit mistreated by the ref in favor of the Catalonian powerhouse. The game will be centered around the first half and it is sure to be a breaking point for both teams, Atletico showed in the first leg that with 11 man then they should be able to hold an early lead. On the other hand Barca should also be looking to score an early goal in order to shut down the fixture and reclaim their path to “the double triple”.
The most interesting pick for this game is the first half to have the most goals aswell as the under 2.5 goals. We feel that with the crowd behind them aswell as the “injustice” from the first game this fixture is a 60/40 in favor of Atletico, but the previously mentioned picks is what the smart gambler will be looking at. If you are feeling bold then consider taking the draw or possibly two coupons; 0-0 and 1-1.
Both Griezmann and Messi to score are two other nice picks for this game as it’s likely that the deciding goal of the fixture will be from either of those two players, after that the leading team should be looking to shut down the game so to speak.
